I used Nandini blue pouch milk which is medium grade skimmed milk in Karnataka. Milk need not be warm. This is the advantage of this gadget. I used boiled and completely cooled milk to test if curd will get set without milk being warm. (If milk needs to be warm, then what is the use of this gadget as we can simply set curd in traditional method without this gadget.) I used 1 tablespoon of Nandini curd for 500ml of Nandini milk. I got perfect result in 6 hours. Starting time: 11.39am. Checking time: 5.55pm. Curd was perfectly set when i checked at that time. Don’t keep opening to check.
The product says double deck seal anti bacterial. It is just fancy term. It just means there is 2 lids: inner and outer which prevents “air bacteria” from entering inside. Who would set curd without a lid.
User manual also says you can make rice wine and natos. Don’t know what is natos. Didn’t try these two recipes.
User manual says you must register for warranty within 10 days if purchase. First download invoice and then go to Agaro website and upload invoice and give your number and name.
Advantage of this gadget is that it maintains a consistent temperature to set curd. In normal traditional method, unless you are very experienced, milk may be too hot or too cold to get perfect result. So it is hit or missed when we we set curd in traditional method. Change in whether also affects setting of curd.
You have to keep it powered on when it is operating. It consumes 15 watt.
UPDATE: Use a good quality starter curd. If starter is of thin consistency, you will not get good result as per my experience. The second time i set the curd, i use 900 ml nandini blue pouch milk ( boiled and completely cooled). I used 2 tablespoon of Nandini yellow pouch curd of good quality ( not old). After 4 hours, i checked to see if was set. But at that time, it was not set all. It was still in milk state. I thought that as the quantity is more this time, it may need 8 hours. But after 2 hours, i checked again and curd was set. So, it was total 6 hours for 900 ml milk.
I also experimented with 100 ml raw nandini blue pouch milk. I added starter in the raw milk. Curd was set after 6 hours, but result was not great. I got thin consistency curd. So, using raw milk is not recommended. To get good curd, both milk and starter curd should be of good quality. Else you will not get good result. If milk used is thin or starter is old and thin, you will get watery curd. If starter is sour curd, you will get sour curd.
UPDATE 2: If you want to make starter curd with whole green chilli or red chilli, you can watch YouTube tutorial and use this machine. It definitely works with this machine but it takes 12 hours to make starter curd with green chilli or red chilli even with small quantity of milk like 1 glass. I tried it myself. Curd was set after 12 hours. It may take 14 hours with traditional method. With traditional method, you may get the temperature wrong and it is hit or missed.
[...]Update 3: In my place, we don’t get pouch milk or fresh milk regularly. So i mostly use UHT milk to make curd. I don’t have to heat it or boil the milk first. I directly pour UHT milk from packet into the bowl of this machine and add starter curd and turn on the machine. It is that simple.
With this machine, making curd has become so simple. But if you don’t have battery backup, power cut can play spoilsport.
