This won’t stand on the burners, slips away with even a small touch and has high risk for falling on the cooking food. Very dangerous model. Not at all recommended. Poor design. Waste of money.

A cast iron tawa is at the opposite end of a great dosa tawa. I had a cast iron tawa, and then got so fed up with its unpredictability and incompetent heat handling– we can enter into abusive relationships with our kitchenware– I decided to get a great dosa tawa. Easier said then done.

A good nonstick dosa tawa is easy to find. A great one is a different matter. What makes a nonstick dosa tawa great? First, it has to be absolutely flat. It has to conduct heat quickly and evenly. It’s used often, so it needs to be easy to clean. The nonstick layer will inevitably erode over time, but there should be at least a 2-year guarantee. Finally, it has to look great.

The Hawkins dosa tawa is a great dosa tawa. It meet all the above requirements and more. I love the rosewood handle. It’s genuine wood, not that fake plastic painted to look like wood (that’s just sad, Carote). My dosas know they’re expected to behave on this tawa. Even the spoons arrange themselves into neat orderly rows. So yeah, I am kinda set for two years.
